Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has confirmed that the ongoing nationwide curfew will continue until the end of May 2021. In a now gazetted notice dated 12th April 2021, the curfew ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 29th March 2021 will continue until 29th May 2021.
The current curfew hours nationwide are between 10 PM-4 AM while the diseased-infected zones which include Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos are between 8 PM-4 PM.
The news of the timeline for the curfew have been received with mixed from citizens across the country. This is because when President Uhuru gave the order in his last address, he did not give a definite timeline as to how long the COVID-19 restrictions would last but noted that the restrictions would be in place until further notice.
In the gazetted notice, advocates, children protection service providers and operators of safe shelters and safe shelters and safe spaces for sexual and gender-based violence survivors have now been included in the list of essential workers exempted from the curfew orders.
