The Ajira digital platform is the key that the government will use to solve the high rate of unemployment among the Youth.The government intends to offer up to 1 million jobs to the youth through this programme. This will enable them earn a decent wage from this online platform.
The Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru stated that the program has already absorbed 49 of the 67% trainees, who are now earning money from it after bidding.
The Cs also noted that the Corona pandemic has severely affected the already dire situation of unemployment,and that approximately one million graduates enter the job market yearly.Given that the government does not create enough jobs to accommodate all of them.
The Ajira Digital Programme seeks to position Kenya as a choice of labor destination for multinational companies; as well as encourage local companies and the public sector to create digital work. The objective of the project is to make Kenya a freelance hub and the global destination for online work by the year 2022.Kenya has been ranked position 10 most performing in terms of online work uptake.
Ajira has 300 Youth Empowerment Centres where Kenyans can access the internet, computers, training and mentorship.About 100 youth have been hired to run the Ajira Youth Empowerment Centres with 50 trainees brought in to support the implementation of the programme.
